Switching from Sortly
Sortly is a good product and the closest thing to us in feel. Most people who move do it for one reason: what it costs once the inventory grows. Here are the figures, how to shift your data, and the things Sortly does better.
Where the pressure usually comes from
Sortly’s pricing is tied to how many items you hold, and it climbs steeply. As at 3 August 2026 the list prices were US$49 a month for 500 items, US$149 for 2,000 and US$299 for 5,000. Our Business plan is £79 a month for 5,000 assets and ten users. That is the sharpest single number we have against anybody, and it is the one people bring up.
Watch the promotional rate when you compare. Sortly advertises US$24, $74 and $149 a month on annual billing, but their own footnote says the 50% discount applies only to the first year of a new subscription, dropping to 20% after that. The figures to plan around are the list prices.
There is one row where we are simply level, and we would rather say it than dodge it: both free plans hold 100 items. Theirs allows one user and two jobs; ours allows one user. Nobody wins that one.

Moving across, in four steps
1. Export your inventory
Get your items out of Sortly as a CSV, along with any custom fields you have added. Keep the file — it is your data whatever you decide.
2. Open a free account
Free Forever holds 100 assets with no card and no trial clock, so you can load a representative slice and judge it properly rather than against a countdown.
3. Import, or hand it to us
Map your own columns to ours and preview the whole thing before it saves. Or send us the export and we will load it by hand, free, on any paid plan — assets, locations, categories and clients.
4. Label and scan
Design QR labels, batch-print them to standard sheets, or assign pre-printed stickers you already have. Then scan with a phone browser — nothing to install.
What is different
- The price stops climbing with the inventory. £19/month for 500 assets and three users, £79/month for 5,000 and ten users. Flat per company, in pounds.
- The AI catalogues from a photograph. Point the phone at a tool and it is identified, named and specced for you to confirm. We found no AI features on Sortly’s site when we checked on 3 August 2026.
- Labels you design and print yourself — a visual QR designer, a print queue for standard label sheets, and pre-printed sticker assignment, on every plan.
- Trade-native records. Clients, projects, locations, a booking calendar, check-in and check-out, and client-facing QR pages that show only what you choose.
- Quotes as well as invoices. Ours are unlimited on every plan, including the free one, with hire rates, labour lines, your own layout and full UK VAT including the construction reverse charge.
When you should stay with Sortly
They do several things well and one thing we cannot match at all.
- The interface. Sortly’s visual, photo-led inventory is genuinely good and it is the closest competitor to us in feel. If your team has taken to it, that is worth something real.
- You are already on QuickBooks Online. Sortly pushes invoices straight into it. We do not integrate with QuickBooks at all — you would be exporting.
- You need purchase orders. Sortly has them from their Ultra plan. We raise customer documents — quotes, invoices and credit notes — but not purchase orders.
- You are US-based and bill in dollars. We are a UK company, we price in pounds and our VAT handling is UK VAT.
Send us the export and we’ll do the rest
Getting the data out of your current system is rarely the hard part. Getting it in somewhere else is what stops people — so we made that bit easy, and we will also just do it for you.
Our importer takes the file you already have, lets you match your own columns, and shows you a full preview before anything is saved. Or send us your export and we will import it by hand, free, on any paid plan — assets, locations, categories and clients. You don’t retype a single row.

Common questions
Is there a free alternative to Sortly?
Asset Giant’s Free Forever plan holds 100 assets with one user, no card and no time limit — the same item count as Sortly’s free tier. Sortly’s free plan also includes two jobs. On free plans there is very little between the two; the gap opens up on the paid tiers.
How much cheaper is Asset Giant than Sortly?
At 5,000 items it is the widest gap we have with anyone: Sortly Premium listed at US$299/month against our Business plan at £79/month for 5,000 assets and ten users. At the entry tier it is US$49/month for 500 items against our £19/month for 500 assets and three users. Prices checked 3 August 2026.
Can Sortly do invoicing?
Yes — and we want to be accurate about that rather than let an absence be implied. Sortly has native invoicing with a QuickBooks Online push, but only on Premium and Enterprise; their help centre states the option does not appear on Free, Advanced or Ultra. We did not find a customer-facing quote feature. Checked 17 August 2026.
Can you import my Sortly export?
Yes. Export to CSV and import it yourself, mapping your own columns with a full preview before anything saves. Or send us the file and we will load it by hand at no charge on any paid plan.
