Two currencies on this page. The dollar figures are the other company’s own published prices. Ours are in pounds sterling, and pounds are what we charge: on 25 September 2026, £1 was about US$1.32. A card issued in any country works at checkout and your own bank converts it.

What it costs once you are past the free tier

Sortly’s free plan holds 100 items with one user. Ours holds 100 assets too, so that is a level start.

The difference shows up when you outgrow it. Sortly’s Advanced plan lists at $49 a month for 500 items and two user licences. Ours is £19 a month for 500 assets and three users. Further up, Sortly’s Premium plan lists at $299 a month for 5,000 items and eight licences, where our Business plan is £79 a month for 5,000 assets and ten users. Their figures were read from their own pricing page on 23 September 2026.

You will see lower numbers on their pricing page — $24, $74, $149. Those are yearly-billed and, by their own footnote, a first-year discount for new customers: after year one it drops to 20% off. Compare against the list prices and you are comparing like with like.

AI that does the typing for you

Photograph a tool and Asset Giant catalogues it. It works out what the item is, then fills in the make, model and specifications for you. Building a register becomes pointing a phone at things rather than typing a spreadsheet — which is the difference between a system that gets finished and one that does not.

• Identify from a photograph — the fastest way to get a few hundred items in.
• Auto-fill the specifications — give it a make and model and it completes the detail fields.
• Ask it in plain English — “what’s out on the Riverside job?”, “what’s worth the most?”, “what’s free next week?”
• On every plan, including the free one — not a premium tier, not an enterprise add-on.

We found no AI features on Sortly’s site as at 3 August 2026.

Quoting, invoicing and hire charging are in the box

Asset Giant does the paperwork as well as the register. Quotes, invoices and credit notes, raised from the kit you already track:

• Hire priced properly — by the hour, day, week or month, against your own chargeable days and minimum charges.
• Everything else on the same document — labour, call-outs and delivery as saved rate items; your own section headings, subtotals and free-text lines; discounts and per-line overrides.
• Tax that fits your country — name it VAT, GST or sales tax and that word is what prints. Add as many rates as you need, and it is fully compliant for UK VAT: zero-rated, exempt and the construction domestic reverse charge kept genuinely separate rather than collapsed into “0%”.
• Paid straight to you — connect your own Stripe account and the client gets a Pay button on the invoice. The money lands in your Stripe balance; we take no cut and no application fee.

What that normally costs. Every one of the twelve hire and rental platforms we reviewed in August 2026 ships quotes and invoices, and the cheapest paid one starts at US$29 a month; in the UK HireHop’s paid tier is £46 a month plus £23 per user, and EZOfficeInventory’s rental product EZRentOut starts at US$399 a month billed annually. Ours is on the same £19 plan as the asset register, and quotes are unlimited even on the free plan.

Sortly deserves credit here, with a caveat about the price. It does have a real invoicing feature — Workflows → Invoices, carrying an invoice number, a status and a customer, and it will push the invoice through to QuickBooks Online. Checked on 17 August 2026, it appears only on their Premium and Enterprise plans; Premium lists at US$299 a month, and we found no customer-facing quote feature at all. So the comparison is not “they cannot invoice” — it is that invoicing sits on their top tier while ours, with quotes, hire charging and flexible tax, is on the £19 plan.

• Jobs, projects and clients are first-class, not capped as a numbered add-on.
• Quotes, invoices and hire charging are included — priced hire, labour lines, your own headings and subtotals, and full UK VAT. Quotes are unlimited on every plan.

They have been at this a long time and it shows in places.

• Sortly’s visual, photo-led interface is genuinely well made, and if a purely visual catalogue is the whole of what you need, you will like it.
• They have a longer track record and a larger customer base than we do.
