Your register moves across as a file. Export the Assets table from AssetTiger, drop it on Asset Giant, match your columns once, and every tool, camera or generator you had listed is in your new inventory — with its make, model, serial, cost and location intact. The whole job is usually an afternoon, and on any paid plan we will simply do it for you.
Step 1: Take your export out of AssetTiger
Do this first, whatever you decide about switching. It is your data, and having a copy of it costs you ten minutes.
- In AssetTiger, open Tools then Export. The page is headed Export Tables.
- Under Step 1: Select Table, choose Assets.
- Choose All Users rather than Me only if other people in your company added records.
- Download the file and keep it somewhere you can find it.
AssetTiger’s own help says: “Export any report, asset list, or transaction history to CSV or PDF from within the app.” Take the CSV, not the PDF — a PDF cannot be imported anywhere.
Their export screen also offers Categories, Locations, Sites, Departments, Person/Employee, Customers, Maintenances, Warranties, Assets Linking and Inventory Items as separate tables. You do not need any of them to get started: Asset Giant creates your categories, locations, clients and projects from the asset file itself, on the preview screen, with a tick box each. Take copies anyway if you want the full archive.

Step 2: Bring the file into Asset Giant
Open Settings then Import, and drop the file on the upload box. Nothing is saved at this point — the file is only read.
Full detail of every step is in Importing Your Existing Spreadsheet. The short version: match your columns, look at the preview, press Import now.
Which AssetTiger column becomes which Asset Giant field
AssetTiger’s asset record is close enough to ours that most of this is matched for you automatically. The one to watch is the first row of the table.
| AssetTiger column | Becomes in Asset Giant | Matched for you? |
|---|---|---|
| Description | Asset Name | Yes. This is the one that surprises people — the name of the thing lives in AssetTiger’s Description field, and that is what becomes your asset name. |
| Asset Tag ID | Asset ID (match only) | Yes. Used to recognise assets you already have. It is never written over the Asset ID we generate — see below. |
| Brand | Manufacturer | Yes |
| Model | Model Number | Yes |
| Serial No | Serial Number | Yes |
| Category | Category | Yes. Anything you do not have yet is offered for creation on the preview. |
| Location | Location | Yes |
| Site | Location | Choose it by hand if you use Sites rather than Locations, or bring Sites in as a Folder. |
| Cost | Purchase Price | Yes. Currency symbols and thousands separators are stripped for you. |
| Purchase Date | Purchase Date | Yes. Check the date-order box at the top of the matching step — AssetTiger is a US product and its dates are often month-first. |
| Purchased from | Supplier | Choose it by hand. |
| Condition | Status | Choose it by hand. Damaged, Lost and New are offered for creation as statuses on the preview if you do not already use them. |
| Department | Folder, or a custom field | Choose it by hand. |
| Colour, Test Date, GPS coordinates, Supplier email | A custom field each | Create them from your spare columns on the matching step. Your plan sets how many custom fields you can have. |
Dates are the thing to check. A date written 8/27/2025 is month-first. The matching step shows a green box saying which way round it is reading your dates, with a worked example, and one click switches it. Dates written as 2026-01-31 work either way.
What does not come across
- Photographs and documents. The importer reads a spreadsheet, so the pictures and the attached files are not inside it. There are three ways to get them here: photograph the tool in the app and let the AI fill the details in, upload the pictures you already have (Uploading and Managing Asset Photos), or send us the folder and we will attach them for you. Manuals, certificates and test sheets sit on the asset as files: Keep Receipts, Manuals and Certificates with the Asset.
- Transaction history and audit history. Who had what two years ago stays in your export. What an item is out on right now does come across: map a Checked Out To and a Due Back column if your file has them. Keep the old record to hand by attaching the export itself to an asset as a document, and Asset Giant starts its own history from the day you import: See Who Changed an Asset, and When.
- Maintenances, warranties, contracts, insurance and depreciation. Asset Giant does not hold these as separate records, so bring the part of them you act on — the date. Put the next service, test or warranty date in a date custom field and set a reminder on it, and you get an email before it passes; reminders are included on every paid plan. See Getting Alerts Before a Date Passes and Add Your Own Fields to Track Anything Extra. Cost, supplier and purchase date come straight across. If depreciation schedules or insurance contracts are central to your week, our side-by-side comparison with AssetTiger is honest about where AssetTiger does more than we do.
- Your AssetTiger tag numbers, as Asset IDs. Asset Giant generates Asset IDs itself from the format in Settings → Preferences, for example TOOL-000001, and an import never overwrites them. Map Asset Tag ID anyway: it is used to recognise items you already hold, and you can also keep it in a custom field so the old number stays searchable.
- People who do not log in. A column naming borrowers rather than team members is better kept as a Client, as a custom field, or as Checked Out To. The matching step offers you all three.
Anything on that list, we will sort out with you. On any paid plan our team does the manual part at no charge — loading the photos and the documents, putting the columns with no obvious home where you want them, and setting up the custom fields and reminders to match the way you work. Tell us what matters to you and send the file over: How to Get Help and Support.
The labels already on your kit
You do not have to re-label anything. If your tools carry AssetTiger tags, assign those existing stickers to the matching assets — see Print QR Labels Now and Assign Them to Assets Later and Assign pre-printed stickers. If you would rather print your own, the label designer and the print queue are on every plan: Printing QR Code Labels.
If it goes wrong, undo it
Every import can be undone for 7 days from Settings → Import. Assets the import created are deleted, assets it changed are put back the way they were, and anything somebody has edited since is left alone and named in the result.
Would you rather we just did it?
On any paid plan, importing your spreadsheet is included. Send us the export and we will match it, import it, and tell you when it is done — assets, locations, categories and clients. There is no charge for it. On Free Forever we are still happy to help if the file will not behave. Use How to Get Help and Support to get in touch.
