The same 500 assets, side by side

itemit prices from a calculator rather than a list, so the figures below are its 500-asset setting, read from their own pricing page on 23 September 2026. Their Starter plan is £26.99 a month for up to 500 assets and up to three users, or £249 a year — about £20.75 a month — paid annually. Prices exclude VAT. There is no free plan; you get a 14-day trial.

Asset Giant’s Crew plan is £19 a month for 500 assets and three users, or £180 a year, which is £15 a month. Underneath it sits Free Forever: 100 assets, no card, no countdown.

Same country, same currency, same asset ceiling, the same three people on it. £19 against £26.99 monthly, £180 against £249 yearly — roughly 30% less either way, and a free plan where they have none.

AI that does the typing for you

Photograph a tool and Asset Giant catalogues it. It works out what the item is, then fills in the make, model and specifications for you. Building a register becomes pointing a phone at things rather than typing a spreadsheet — which is the difference between a system that gets finished and one that does not.

• Identify from a photograph — the fastest way to get a few hundred items in.
• Auto-fill the specifications — give it a make and model and it completes the detail fields.
• Ask it in plain English — “what’s out on the Riverside job?”, “what’s worth the most?”, “what’s free next week?”
• On every plan, including the free one — not a premium tier, not an enterprise add-on.

itemit lists AI Text Recognition among its features — reading text off a label. Working out what the item is from a photograph, and filling in its specifications for you, is a different job, and it is the one that removes the typing.

Quoting, invoicing and hire charging are in the box

Asset Giant does the paperwork as well as the register. Quotes, invoices and credit notes, raised from the kit you already track:

• Hire priced properly — by the hour, day, week or month, against your own chargeable days and minimum charges.
• Everything else on the same document — labour, call-outs and delivery as saved rate items; your own section headings, subtotals and free-text lines; discounts and per-line overrides.
• Tax that fits your country — name it VAT, GST or sales tax and that word is what prints. Add as many rates as you need, and it is fully compliant for UK VAT: zero-rated, exempt and the construction domestic reverse charge kept genuinely separate rather than collapsed into “0%”.
• Paid straight to you — connect your own Stripe account and the client gets a Pay button on the invoice. The money lands in your Stripe balance; we take no cut and no application fee.

What that normally costs. Every one of the twelve hire and rental platforms we reviewed in August 2026 ships quotes and invoices, and the cheapest paid one starts at US$29 a month; in the UK HireHop’s paid tier is £46 a month plus £23 per user, and EZOfficeInventory’s rental product EZRentOut starts at US$399 a month billed annually. Ours is on the same £19 plan as the asset register, and quotes are unlimited even on the free plan.

Where we stop, plainly: we are not a full hire platform. A dedicated system gives you a public booking storefront your customers order through, and we have nothing of the kind.

On itemit’s side, we looked on 17 August 2026 instead of leaving it open. Their features page lists Booking, QR & Barcode Tagging, Item Profiles, Issues, Locations, Collections, Users, AI Text Recognition, Audit & Depreciation and Multilingual Support — no quoting or invoicing among them. Where their site does mention invoices it means either a supplier’s invoice stored against an asset, or paying itemit itself by invoice on the Industrial plan. They do have a booking module, which we rate fairly in the table; what they do not appear to have is a way to charge for the booking.

One difference worth knowing about.

• itemit has an established RFID and hardware ecosystem. If you specifically need RFID tags and readers rather than QR codes, that is their territory and not ours.

If QR codes on a phone will do the job, and your register fits inside 500 assets or runs to a few thousand, we think the numbers above speak for themselves.
